Women’s economic empowerment - key component for development

Event date: 10 March 2024, 13:00 - 16:00 (Eastern Daylight Time)
Commonwealth Secretary-General discusses women's economic empowerment

The fourth Commonwealth Women’s Forum will be held in Apia, Samoa, in October this year during the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

In preparation for the Women’s Forum, the Commonwealth Secretariat is hosting an event on 10 March to consult governments and women’s rights groups on ways to empower women in the economy as a means towards achieving sustainable development.

This hybrid event will be held alongside the 68th Session of the United Nations Consultations on the Status of Women in New York City. It will offer delegates an opportunity to examine the persistent challenges faced by women in trade and entrepreneurship and identify solutions to overcome them.

Proposals from the event will feed into the report of the 2024 Commonwealth Women’s Forum. The report will serve as the basis for leaders’ discussions and decisions on achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment at the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa.
